Highlights
Zara/Inditex continues to use models of color on their website and Instagram page. Inditex Careers often spotlights BIPOC employees on their Instagram page. From their annual report, they claimed to have a DEI office furthering workplace/employment diversity.
Lowlights
Zara/Inditex has responded minimally to calls for racial justice despite their claims of donations and internal reforms. Though they claimed to be donating to marginalized communities of color/Black communities, they never specified an exact amount or organization. Inditex has not made/publicized any partnerships with activists or organizations promoting racial justice. Despite underscoring DEI in their annual reports, Inditex continues to lack transparency around specific employee demographics beyond gender and nationality.

We scour the company’s website and official social media channels to determine what message they are sending around racial injustice, how they are communicating it, and whether their communications are perceived as genuine or performative.

Social media: We consider how a company uses their platform(s) beyond performative allyship.

III. External Communications
Zara has issued a public statement, both on social media and in a public memo, addressing racial injustice that acknowledged that they can be doing better to combat racial inequality within their company, and explicitly stated "Black Lives Matter." Since June 2020, of the brand's social media content has been centered around racial injustice having only posted a "Blackout Tuesday" post. While the brand has made an effort to include ethnic diversity, specifically increasing Black representation, aside from a post for Pride, there is little to no evidence on social media of inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community (beyond posting for Pride), people living with disabilities, or a wide range of models with varying body types.
