Highlights

Comcast put together a virtual Internet Essentials Impact on Education Summit to combat the digital divide. The event includes thought leaders and experts in education to discuss lasting solutions to create digital equity.

Lowlights

While Comcast has shown genuine support for underrepresented communities, they could have a heavier emphasis on uplifting the Black community. Comcast has talked about specific actions they want to take part on for external change, however, they did not necessarily acknowledge work they have to do internally and how they can improve.

II. Public Commitment

Comcast has pledged a donation of 0.1% - 0.9% of annual revenue towards BIPOC communities as a whole (has not specified donations towards Black lives). Additionally, Comcast has engaged in actions that advance racial justice and/or uplift BIPOC communities, such as partnerships with nonprofits or mission-based organizations, sponsorship of individuals who use their platform to speak out on racial injustice, sponsorship of events, and matching donations to a broad range of qualifying organizations. Comcast is also an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and people living with disabilities.

III. External Communications

Comcast has issued a public statement, both on social media and in a public memo, addressing racial injustice that included specific calls to action, but did not explicitly state "Black Lives Matter." Since June 2020, 31% - 40% of the brand's social media content has been centered around racial injustice with posts seeking to continue the momentum of BLM. The brand has made an effort to include ethnic diversity, specifically increasing Black representation, and has shown support of the LGBTQ+ community beyond Pride as well as inclusion of people living with disabilities or a wide range of models with varying body types on social media.
